Meet The Blogger:

Hey there! I'm Beni, I'm 24 years old and I currently live in Philadelphia with my boyfriend of seven years, Kyle. I've cared about the environment as long as I can remember, but I am now officially on a journey to being "zero waste". I've always made goals for myself when it comes to a more sustainable lifestyle. I've been an avid recycler all my life and in 2019 I officially gave up fast-fashion after reading about how harmful it is to the environment. For the past year I have been focused on finding zero-waste alternatives as I replaced products, and I even started composting! My goal for 2021 now is to become as low-waste as possible. I will document my journey here on this blog for anyone else who wants to join the effort to live a more sustainable life.

I've never been one for New Year's Resolutions because I don't tend to find them helpful. But 2020 was a wild ride and I knew I wanted to go into 2021 with a positive mindset and some clear goals for myself. The first goal that came to mind was going zero-waste. It's been on my mind almost constantly lately whenever I am buying something, cooking something, or even when I see ads online. The reason I never tried to go zero-waste before was because I never felt it was attainable for me. The zero-waste options near me in Philadelphia are pretty limited to say the least. There isn't a refill store I can go to, and there isn't a farmer's market that is open year round near me. I'm pretty much stuck with shopping at your usual large chains for groceries and necessities like Walmart and Target. Which is why this blog is meant to be accessible to everyone and inclusive of everyone, regardless of where you are on your journey to living a less wasteful life.

As an avid consumer of sustainable blogs and YouTube, I had yet to see someone doing zero waste shopping at large chain stores that majority of people have access to on the regular. I didn't even know if it was possible to shop zero waste at a store like Walmart. Which is why I decided to start this blog. I want to document shopping at large chain stores, find more sustainable swaps, and also what DIY solutions I come up with for what I can't find a better swap for. This blog is really my way of holding myself accountable to this goal of mine, and I am hoping it may be a good resource for my friends and family members who also want to make better choices for the planet.
